Pilots & RadarBox: Roberto's Story

Roberto Amadei, Italian, 25 years old, a private pilot and an AirNav RadarBox user

Roberto's journey as an aviation professional commenced in February 2015 as a cabin crew for a Brussels-based airline, since then he has never left the aviation industry, and in 2017 began his studies as a private pilot in Charleroi (Belgium) and moved to Spain to continue his studies for the MEP/IR and (commercial pilot license).

His passion for aviation started when he was 6 years old, observing his father, an aviation enthusiast, simulate a flight on his old PC and encouraged him to simulate along with him. Afterward, he discovered his passion for aviation ever since.

Regarding the use of RadarBox as a working tool in the daily life of aviation professionals, Roberto told us that it is very important to him, the weather layers feature that helps him plan his flights and the real-time flight tracking around the world that makes it possible to follow his wife, who is a flight attendant, and to follow the flights of friends and family. An indispensable tool for professionals and aviation lovers.

According to him, working in aviation is not something you can describe. You need to experience yourself, and it is something you must try if you are really in this world. "Choose a job that you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life," "so I don't see it as a "job" to do, but instead, I would say more like a hobby," says him.

"It is something I love. I am eternally passionate about aviation. When you wake up early in the morning knowing that you will do something you love today, this is the best feeling you can experience in your life. It is a fabulous job. Sometimes, it can be stressful like any other job, but it is gratifying at the end of the day. In conclusion, I could say that PASSION is what motivates me to do this." - says Roberto.

He also tells us that he worked as a flight attendant for almost 4 years. It was a significant experience for his personal and professional growth, changing his worldview, having contacts with different cultures, and respecting and learning to live with different people. Roberto is the first person in his family to become a pilot and work in aviation.

About becoming a pilot and working in aviation, he says: "Don’t listen to people that say it’s too difficult or too dangerous, or whatever they could say, just go for it, and make your own experience, nothing it’s difficult when if there is passion behind."

About being a pilot, Roberto gives some tips:

1. As said before, don’t let people say what you can do or what you cannot do, don’t listen to people's opinions, take them as advice, BUT make your own experiences and mistakes, only in this way you can know your limits. For example, before starting my training, people were discouraging me, saying that it was too difficult and hard, If I had listened to them, I would never become a Pilot, and it would have been the biggest mistake of my life.

2. You need to study a lot, as you will do a job with responsibilities, but you will have your personal reward in the end. (Studies are not difficult, but there are a lot of things to know).

3. MAKE TREASURE OF EVERY SINGLE WORD YOUR FIRST FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR SAY.

The first Instructor is the instructor that you will always remember for the rest of your life. You will learn to make treasure of everything he/she says.

4. The last tip is the most important: ENJOY!, enjoy as much as you can every minute you fly, it’s an experience it comes once in life, and you will regret it once you finish.

Amadei currently flies a Piper Seneca, a twin-engine, produced in the US by Piper Aircraft. And he is currently studying to become a commercial pilot and will soon be flying all over the world.

And Roberto's favorite quote is one from the symbolic Chinese thinker and philosopher of springs and autumns, Confucius: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
