Rescued from the brink of insolvency, Indian carrier Jet Airways carried out its first test flight after a 3-year gap in a step towards obtaining the air operator certificate as it prepares to resume operations later this year.

Yesterday, on April 5th, a Boeing 737-85R (VT-SXE) operated by Jet Airways took off from Hyderabad (HYD / VOHS) at 18:13 (IST) for New Delhi (DEL/VIDP), to check aircraft safety aspects.

"Today, May 5, our 29th birthday, Jet Airways flew again! An emotional day for all of us who have been waiting, working, and praying for this day, as well as for Jet's loyal customers who can't wait for Jet to commence operations again." - tweeted Jet Airways.

Sanjiv Kapoor, CEO of Jet Airways, said that the Indian carrier wants to resume flights in the third quarter of 2022 (July-September), with plans for a full-service airline that can compete with the fares of low-cost carriers. “A very emotional moment for all the wonderful folks who have been working hard to get Jet back in the skies,” commented him on Twitter.
