This week we will be featuring our Aircraft Utilization Statistics and Airport Heat Maps, which give an interesting insight into the networks generated by airports and airlines.

1. Airport Heat Maps

Airport Heat Maps convert the dry and drab route statistics into informative visualizations, where it displays the frequency of flights to different airports or cities from a particular originating airport. Apart from route heat maps for airports, we also provide route heat maps for aircraft and airlines.

Destination airports where the frequency of flights is higher are shown in red or orange, whereas destination airports where the frequency of flights from the originating airport are lower are shown in light green or yellow.

The Image Above: Based on data from the Airport Heat Map, it also develops an airport's busiest destinations in terms of average movements per week.

The data of the Airport Heat Map also determine what destinations are the busiest from that particular airport. An example is seen above from Amsterdam Schiphol, where Frankfurt am Main, Paris CDG, and London Heathrow Airport are the busiest destinations from that origin airport.

This data is updated every day based on the information provided to us by our ADS-B Feeders across Amsterdam and the rest of the world alike. Such information is beneficial to spotters and even to business personnel. For spotters, it is useful because a determination can be made on when such flights will fly to their location and to business personnel so then it can keep a track of airport information and make decisions based on that.

2. Aircraft Utilization

The Image Above: Most recent information on Emirates' Aircraft Utilization

The aircraft utilization is quite an interesting part of AirNav RadarBox as it breaks down the fleet of an airline and tells you the following:

  1. Average flight duration.
  2. Average flights per day.
  3. Average flight hours per day.

In the case of Emirates, for example, data shows a fleet of 125 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft offering an average flight duration of 5.8 hours across two flights per day, giving a total average flight hours rating of 11.7.

This sort of information would be beneficial to airlines because it can track how often their aircraft are flying and whether there is any potential down the line to increase such numbers going forward.

Complementing the fleet utilization statistics, AirNav RadarBox also provides individual flight statistics for each aircraft worldwide.

With the 12-month averages updating every day, it offers customers close to real-time information on fleet utilization going into the future.
