Joe is a communications engineer for a local company, providing IT networking & communication services, and is one of our ADS-B feeders in the USA. He lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has been feeding ADS-B data to RadarBox from this American paradise on the Oahu island, since September 2019.

Joe’s setup is located 20 miles East of Honolulu International Airport (HNL/PHNL), has a range of 276 nautical miles, and ranks #236 in the USA and #1245 in RadarBox's ADS-B station global ranking.

His antenna is mounted on the roof of his house located 450' MSL.  He attached the standard 1090MHz antenna to a sturdy pipe near his solar water heater panels and routed the coax cable down with the water pipes to the RadarBox XRange2 controller.  Joe suggests installing the antenna on a fixed mast that doesn't move and locate the coax cable in such a way as to minimize exposure to the elements (sun, wind, rain, etc.) to ensure a lasting, trouble-free installation.  Tight, weather-protected connectors are also important.

With a 270-degree view, coverage is quite good, reaching up to 250nm over the surrounding Pacific Ocean, including to all but one of the Hawaiian neighbor islands. The Discovery of distant aircraft flying to the South of his house cannot be discovered, like an extinct volcano (Koko Crater) is blocking the view.
