The Busiest U.S. Airports in June 2021

The USA has some of the busiest airports in the world. But the question is, which ones are the busiest in June?

Based on our U.S commercial air traffic data, we're going to show you in this post which airports were the busiest during this month. It is worth pointing out that these data refer to commercial flights.

1st - KORD / ORD - Chicago O'Hare International Airport 

Chicago - O'Hare International (ORD / KORD), USA - Illinois - Ercan Karakas - SpotTR 

Chicago O'Hare airport recorded more than 8,277 commercial flights in June for a total of 58,157 flights (commercial/cargo private and general aviation) - corresponding to average growth of 161% per month. And it ranks first among the busiest airports this month in the US.  

Commercial/cargo/private and general aviation:

June 19-25: 14,748 flights 

June 19-28: 20,946 flights 

June 2021: 58,157 flights

Also, according to our data, between June 19-25, there were 2,080 commercial flights and a total of 14,748 flights (commercial/cargo private and general aviation), corresponding to an increase of +151.82% in this period compared to last year.

2nd - KATL / ATL - Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport

The second busiest airport in America is Atlanta (KATL/ATL), with 8,120 commercial flights and a total of 56.961 flights (commercial/cargo private and general aviation) during June and a growth of +148.72%. In 2019, Atlanta Int. The airport recorded more than 53 million passengers during this year. 

Commercial/cargo/private and general aviation:

June 19-25: 14,383 flights 

June 19-28: 20,455 flights 

June 2021: 56,961 flights 

KATL / ATL - Commercial Flight Statistics - June 19-25

A +125.77% growth was seen in the number of commercial flights corresponding to 2,050 commercial flights and a total of 14,383 flights (commercial/cargo/private and general aviation) compared to 908 commercial flights over the same period of 2020.

3rd - KDFW / DFW - Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

The third busiest airport is Dallas Int. Airport (KDFW / DFW), with 7,678 commercial flights and 53,927 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) for the entire month and monthly growth of +96.36%.

June 19-25: 13,495 flights 

June 19-28: 19,175 flights 

June 2021: 53,927 flights

There was a growth of +86.46 this month, and the number of commercial flights corresponding to 1,923 and a total of 13.495 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) compared to 1,015 flights between June 19-25, 2020.

4th - KDEN / DEN - Denver International Airport

Denver Int. Airport (KEN/DEN) ranks fourth among the busiest airports for commercial flights, with 6,922 commercial flights and a total of 48,618 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) during this period. Registering an increase of +122%.

Commercial/cargo/private and general aviation:

June 19-25: 12,273 flights 

June 19-28: 17,347 flights 

June 2021: 48,618 flights

Our commercial flight data between June 19 and 25 show an increase of +93.86 in commercial flights - 1,737 flights and 12,273 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation). 

5th - KLAX / LAX - Los Angeles International Aiport

One of Asia's gateways to the US, Los Angeles Airport (LAX), recorded 5,947 commercial flights and 41,808 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) and a growth statistic of +143.8% in that period.

Commercial/cargo/private and general aviation:

June 19-25: 10,611 flights 

June 19-28: 15,093 flights 

June 2021: 41,808 flights

Compared to last year, the number of flights was +129.00 higher, corresponding to 1,516 flights on a total of 10,611 flights. A huge growth!

6th - KJFK / JFK US - John F. Kennedy International Airport

New York, New York! New York John F. Kennedy International Airport is ranked sixth with 3,512 commercial flights and a total of 24,716 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) and a 239% growth compared to last year. A great recovery!

Commercial/cargo/private and general aviation:

June 19-25: 6,417 flights 

June 19-28: 9,180 flights 

June 2021: 24,716 flights 

KJFK / JFK - Commercial Flight Statistics - June 19-25

A giant leap! John F. Kennedy Int. Airport showed an increase of +229.14% - 915 flights (commercial flights) / 6,417 flights (commercial/cargo/ private and general aviation) compared to 278 in 2020. 

Besides the growth during June of up to 239% - something very relevant and a clear sign of recovery.

As pointed out above, this data refers to commercial flights by airlines within the country. 

Conclusion

The numbers highlight growth for the top 6 US airports - all above the 2020 average and reaching 70-90% of 2019 levels. Which is somewhat surprising and encouraging for investors and airlines in the US. The growth is mainly due to the mass vaccination plus and the economy's growth with the return of economic activities, consequently with the commercial flights, especially on domestic routes.

What can we expect?

A gradual return of international flights with mass vaccination in other countries and free transit of tourists, especially American tourists in other countries in Europe and other parts of the world where they are already accepted vaccinated people with any WHO-approved vaccine.
