Canada Starts 2022 With Double Digit Growth

According to AirNav RadarBox data, Canadian domestic and international air traffic has been experiencing growth of over 58% compared to the same period in 2021. During this period, 11,522 domestic flights were recorded, corresponding to 1,646 flights per day, and representing a growth of 58.73%.

This number represents 60% of pre-pandemic levels (17,857 flights), which show a marked recovery in domestic flights.

Also, according to our data, Canada - NON-Canada flights posted a profit that exceeded double digits, registering a growth of over 123%. Between Jan 23 and Jan 29, over 525,175 international flights were recorded, with a daily average of 75,025 flights.

Despite the new COVID variant, Omicron, the expectation is for growth in Canada's domestic and international air traffic ahead of the summer. It is expected that by the summer of 2022, the COVID-19 pandemic will lessen its effect on the economy and consequently lead to an upsurge in the number of flights (domestic and international flights).

Air Canada 

The Montreal-based airline has been logging over 564 flights daily for a total of 3,948 flights over the past seven days (Jan 16 - Jan 22). These figures are higher than the figures for 2021, which decreased -73% compared to 2020. The present growth exceeds three digits, corresponding to 196.84%.

Calgary-based airline Westjet Airlines has likewise been experiencing over 100% growth, posting a 160% growth compared to last year (2021). 1,568 flights were recorded during the past week, with a daily average of 224 flights.
